2014 Good Practice Event on Entrepreneurial Universities



From 29th of September to 1st of October, the 2014 Entrepreneurial Universities Event brought together 158 academics and professionals from 32 countries driving the change of becoming more innovation-oriented, engaged and entrepreneurial – in their university, research institution, in government or an intermediary.

Keynote speakers included:
  • Professor Dana T. Redford – Author of Handbook on the Entrepreneurial University & President of the Platform for Entrepreneurship Education in Portugal (PEEP)
  • Sergio Arzeni - Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development at the OECD
  • Juliet Edwards - Policy Officer - Higher Education & Innovation at the European Commission
  • José María Fuster - Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology & Chief Information Officer of Banco Santander, S.A.

UIIN Conference 2014



From 23th to 25th of April 2014, the University Industry Innovation Network (UIIN) and the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) hosted the 2014 University-Industry Interaction Conference on "Challenges and solutions for fostering entrepreneurial universities and collaborative innovation" in Barcelona, Spain.

With 342 participants, the conference was the leading international discussion forum for academics, researchers, practitioners and business representatives on university-industry interaction, where theory and practice are equally emphasised in the programme. The programme consisted out of keynote presentations, track sessions, workshops and sight visits. During this three day conference high emphasis was placed on networking opportunities and creative space, as well as skill development workshops (executive education), delivered by EADA Business School, one of Europe’s leading Business Schools.

Keynote speakers included:
  • Carl Schramm - American economist, entrepreneur, and former President and CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, author of Good Capitalism – Bad Capitalism
  • Keld Laursen - Professor for Innovation at Copenhagen Business School and Vice-president of the European Academy of Management (EURAM)
  • Matthias Kaiserswerth - Director and Vice President, IBM Research – Zurich
  • Liz Towns-Andrews - Director of Research and Enterprise at the University of Huddersfield (UK Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2012, awarded by Times Higher Education) & and Chief Executive of the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre

UIIN and Triple Helix Association Workshop on University-Business-Cooperation US/Europe Studies



On the 7th of July 2013, the University-Business Cooperation Workshop, run by the University Industry Innovation Network (UIIN), the Triple Helix Association and the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre has shone a spotlight on the topic of University-Business Cooperation (UBC). Around 45 workshop attendees heared from and discussed relevant issues in cooperation between universities and business including entrepreneurship, collaborative research, commercialisation of research and development (IP) results, collaborative curriculum development, mobility and lifelong learning.

The workshop took place in the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Club on 71 Pall Mall in London, the United Kingdom. The workshop was a pre-conference event of the Triple Helix Conference which took place in London from the 10th to 12th of July. Workshop speakers ranged from Henry Etzkowitz (President of the Triple Helix Association), Thomas Baaken (Director of the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre & Scientific Director of UIIN) to Marina Ranga (H-Star Institute at Stanford University). Presentations were followed by a facilitated discussion on "University-Business Cooperation in Europe – a comparison with the United States", which was moderated by Todd Davey (UIIN Director for Strategy and Performance & Manager International Projects at the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre).

UIIN Conference 2013



From the 27th till 29th of May, the University Industry Innovation Network organised the University-Industry Interaction Conference in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During this three day event, 338 participants, from 48 countries representing a wide variety of Higher Education Institutions and business came together in Amsterdam to discuss and share information on the current challenges and solutions in University-Industry Interaction. With keynote speakers such as Henry Etzkowitz (President of the Triple Helix Association), David Docherty (Chief Executive of NCUB) and John Bell (Vice President Philips Research), the conference brought together some of the key thought leaders on university-industry interaction.
